Key Features:
Real-Time Character Swapping
Acquire up to seven playable companions throughout your journey. Switch between them mid-combat in real time to chain together devastating combos. Each character plays completely differently with unique movesets, abilities, and playstyles.
The Scarf Is Everything
The Umbra Weave is simultaneously your weapon, your companion, and your morality meter. It has moods. It has personality. It transforms into combat forms. And it slowly changes based on every choice you make. Go full evil and the scarf's personality fades away. You won't notice it happening until it's already gone.
A Morality System That Hits Different
Inspired by Fable and Infamous but taken further. Your choices change Sparrow's appearance, the world around you, the music, the color grading of entire zones, how NPCs react to you, and what Cortex Castle becomes. The evil path starts as a power fantasy and ends as a horror story. All through visual storytelling, not cutscenes telling you how to feel.
Built on a Custom Engine
Tales of Epitome runs on the Epitome Engine, a custom game engine built from scratch in Rust specifically for this game. Every pixel passes through a rendering pipeline designed to authentically recreate the PS2 aesthetic. Cel-shading, vertex wobble, affine textures, CRT scanlines, Bayer dithering, Sobel outlines. This isn't a retro filter on a modern engine. This is an engine that can only do retro, and it does it better than anything else.
Play In Your Browser
The engine compiles to WebAssembly through WebGPU. That means the full game, same engine, same renderer, same everything, can run in a web browser. No download. No install. Just a link and you're playing.
